Ben Rawman es un fotógrafo y autor español cuya obra se desarrolla a través de proyectos centrados en el retrato y la exploración de la identidad. Tras más de tres décadas de trabajo, abre públicamente un archivo construido al margen de tendencias, circuitos mediáticos y planteamientos comerciales.
Su fotografía busca la intensidad de la presencia humana, incluso cuando esta solo se manifiesta a través de su rastro, antes que la perfección técnica. Trabaja principalmente en blanco y negro, con una intervención mínima sobre la imagen, entendiendo cada cámara como parte del lenguaje visual y no como un simple instrumento. Cada fotografía pretende conservar la experiencia del momento con la mayor honestidad posible.
Su trabajo se desarrolla de manera completamente independiente. No participa en concursos, premios ni convocatorias, al entender la fotografía como un medio de expresión y conocimiento, no como una disciplina competitiva.

«Desde 1996 haciendo fotografía. Nunca pisé una escuela de arte ni de fotografía.
Solo me he dedicado a mirar, reflexionar, digerir, vomitar, amar y odiar la fotografía… y aún hoy lo sigo haciendo.
Solo mira las fotografías. No necesitas nada más.
No busco la perfección; me interesa lo que falla, lo que se niega a morir, lo que no encaja.
A veces provoco la imagen. A veces simplemente ocurre.
Hay días en los que detesto la fotografía. Días en los que lo quemaría todo. Y otros en los que ella me salva.
No hay currículum. Nunca me han interesado los currículums. Ni el mío ni el de nadie. Solo me interesan las fotografías.»

«I’ve been making photographs since 1996. I never set foot in an art school or a photography school.
I’ve simply spent my time looking at, reflecting on, digesting, vomiting, loving, and hating photography… and I still do.
Just look at the photographs. You don’t need anything else.
I’m not interested in perfection; I’m interested in what fails, what refuses to die, what doesn’t fit.
Sometimes I provoke the image. Sometimes it simply happens.
There are days when I hate photography. Days when I’d burn it all. And others when it saves me.
There is no résumé. I’ve never cared about résumés. Not mine, not anyone else’s. I only care about the photographs.«
